Making soap at Thrive Church!

I had the real pleasure of holding a melt and pour soap making workshop at Thrive Church on Johnson Road in Freeville, this past Saturday, as an activity for the ladies! As usual, it was lots of fun to meet everyone and just see all of the lovely creative ideas that everyone had for their soaps.

Because this particular activity was for adults, I brought many, many choices for fragrances, as well as a good number of my soap molds. When I do these workshops for children, I usually only bring watermelon fragrance oil plus a few citrus essential oils to cut down on the number of choices the children have to make, but for this workshop I brought a healthy assortment of yummy scents, floral, "Men's," fruity, plus lots of essential oils.

We used Bramble Berry white soap base, and oatmeal soap base and had the full assortment of liquid soap colors plus a few micas, and some bio glitter as well! I also brought along a few botanicals, like chamomile flowers, calendula petals, poppy seeds, etc. So many fun choices!

The technique for "making soap" with melt and pour soap base is very simple. Chop the soap up into little cubes, put it into a paper cup and microwave for a few seconds until just melted. Add the fragrance or essential oil you like, plus a drop of color. Top it off with some botanicals if you like that sort of thing, and then pour it into the mold! Easy peasy!

While waiting for the soap to cool and harden (from 20 minutes for small soaps to an hour for larger ones), Pastor Hannah did some Bible study with the ladies, and snacks were enjoyed. After that, the soaps were un-molded (so fun to see the results!), and then wrapped in clear bags with pretty tags for safe-keeping.

Thank you so much for the invite, Hannah and Brian! It was such a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon!
